SARS-Related Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Lineage EG.5.1;Omicron Variant – CFHI

SARS-Related Coronavirus 2 Lineage EG.5.1;Omicron Variant (Isolate: USA/MD-HP47946/2023) is an enveloped, positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus from the Coronaviridae family and the Betacoronaviridae genus. Severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), isolate hCoV-19/USA/MD HP47946/2023 was isolated from a human on April 10, 2023, in Maryland, USA. Under the nomenclature system introduced by GISAID (Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data), SARS-CoV-2, isolate hCoV-19/USA/MDHP47946/2023 is assigned lineage EG.5.1 (Pango v.4.3 consensus call), Omicron (XBB.1 like) (Scorpio) and GISAID clade GRA using the Phylogenetic Assignment of Named Global Outbreak lineages (PANGO) tool. The complete genome of SARS CoV-2, isolate hCoV-19/USA/MD-HP47946/2023 has been sequenced (GISAID: EPI_ISL_17738077). It was labeled as VOI GRA (EG.5+EG.5.*) and first detected in Indonesia/France by the World Health Organization (WHO).
